Yeah, I’m serious, because in a sense they’re already doing it. And although I’ve filed this under “Cartoons”, “Political” and “Religion” I have not filed it under “Humor”. This is tragedy, not comedy.

Interesting, funny, and scarily true. The image of Jesus gets recycled and reinvented every few years. The most popular image I know, especially as a person growing up in the 1970′s, is the one that looks like Kenny Loggins. I’ve also seen images of a blond Jesus, or at least sandy haired, with very Northern European features. An odd image considering he was born and lived in the middle-east.
Some contextualizing is OK, so that people can identify with him. Hence the blonde/blue-eyed Jesus in much of European art, or the dark skin in the African folk-tale children’s books written by an artist friend of mine.
But when his character gets altered in order to justify evil, un-Christlike behavior, I get up on my hind legs.
Matthew 7:15-23 comes to mind, about false prophets and wolves in sheeps clothing. Jesus says to them, “Get away from me; I never knew you.”
Thanks for the comment about the cartoon. Scarily true is right.
